Refugee Archives: Stories Beyond Borders is a three-part podcast series produced by University of Westminster students Zara Mehmood and Sumaya Yasin as part of the Refugee Archive Project, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The series explores what it means to be a refugee, who gets to tell refugee stories, and why preserving those stories matters. Through interviews with researchers, writers and community voices, it examines how refugee histories are represented, remembered and shared.
Featuring conversations with Roza Tsagarousianou (Professor of Media and Migration at the University of Westminster) and Naomi Weaver (PhD researcher in public history, refugee and migration studies at the University of East Anglia) alongside poetry and creative contributions by Amir Darwish, Stephen Watts and Marsha Glenn, the podcast explores themes of displacement, identity, belonging and home.
Combining interviews, poetry, music and personal reflection, Refugee Archives: Stories Beyond Borders highlights the importance of refugee self-representation and the role of archives in preserving lived experiences for future generations. Produced in collaboration with the University of Westminster’s Refugee Archive Project, it invites listeners to reflect on storytelling, heritage and community beyond the headlines.
